Biography

Sameh Shoukry is Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2014. He brings a wealth of experience in global security issues and multilateral diplomacy being Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva (2005-2008) and Ambassador to Austria (1999-2003), where he was Egypt’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Governor of Egypt on the board of the IAEA, Chairman of the Group of 77 & China to international organizations in Vienna (2001-2002), and Head of Egypt’s delegation for the Negotiations on the International Treaty to Combat Transnational Organized Crime in Vienna (2000). He was Egypt’s Ambassador to the United States (2008-2012), and served throughout his diplomatic career at Egypt’s embassies in London, Buenos Aires, as well as Egypt’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. He was Sherpa to the 2014 Hague Nuclear Security Summit and the 2014 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit, as well as President of COP27.
