Chrystia Freeland is Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. She previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (2017-19), where she represented Canada during the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement, and as Minister of International Trade (2015-17), where she oversaw Canada’s successful negotiation of CETA, a free trade agreement with the European Union. An esteemed journalist and author before entering government, Ms. Freeland was educated at Harvard University before continuing her studies on a Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford. She has worked in the UK, the US, Russia, and Ukraine. Ms. Freeland speaks Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, French, and English.
