The Aspen Strategy Group gathered for the 2021 Annual Workshop on September 29 – October 1. The meeting brought together over 60 experts from the fields of government, academia, journalism, and business to discuss some of the most pressing challenges facing the United States around this year’s theme. The workshop focused on the state of democracy in the United States and around the world with sessions that addressed challenges such as those facing American democracy and democratic institutions, the global rise of authoritarianism, China’s competing model of governance, and the impact of technology and misinformation on democracy.
Coming out of the discussions, the Aspen Strategy Group will publish a compilation of papers from participants in our annual policy book series that will aim to help build a strategy for the years ahead as the United States seeks to bolster democracy both at home and abroad. This year we are pleased to partner with Democracy: A Journal of Ideas to publish the pieces online in December 2021 and as a special print edition in early 2022.
