Track II Dialogues
For over 30 years, the ASG has taken on the most important global challenges facing America. ASG’s principal focus on arms control and defense strategy at the height of the Cold War evolved into “Track II” diplomacy dialogues between the U.S. and counterparts from Brazil, China, and India. These valuable dialogues establish direct, personal contact when governments find it difficult to have honest and open conversations with each other. In 2018, the ASG launched its Transatlantic Strategic Dialogue in partnership with the Aspen European Strategy Group.

The U.S.-China Track II Dialogue
Recognizing the critical importance of cultivating a relationship of trust and cooperation between two of the world’s largest powers, the ASG launched a bilateral Track II dialogue between the United States and China in June 2013, in partnership with the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and with the explicit endorsement of President Xi Jinping. The mission of the ASG’s U.S.-China Track II Dialogue is to foster a closer strategic relationship between China and the United States built on mutual respect, understanding, and trust.

Transatlantic Strategic Dialogue
The transatlantic relationship has been the linchpin of the liberal international order for over seventy years. However, it has recently come under strain as domestic and international developments have caused upheaval in both the U.S. and Europe. To address these mounting challenges, the Aspen Strategy Group has pursued an array of projects to promote and bolster the transatlantic relationship and cooperation. Since 2017, the ASG has partnered with the Aspen European Strategy Group, the Munich Security Conference (MSC), and the Mercator Institute for China Studies. The ASG and MSC will continue to convene meetings in 2025.
