Alejandro Cainzos is the Head of Unit for External Economic Policy at the Secretariat-General of the European Commission. In this role, he coordinates the work of Commission services in the areas of trade, economic security and other policies with geoeconomic implications, as well as relations with the U.S. and other advanced economies. Prior to his current position, Cainzos served as a Member of Cabinet to Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, where he provided strategic advice on the international dimensions of digital, competition, and cybersecurity policies. His earlier experience includes roles in the Secretariat-General and Directorate-General for Internal Market and Services, focusing on international relations and policy coordination. He holds a Master’s degree from the College of Europe and a Bachelor’s degree in international relations and economics from Georgetown University.
