Career diplomat, in the Polish foreign service since 1993. During his career he held numerous expert and managerial positions, i. a. at the Department of Planning and Analyses of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Head of Unit and Deputy Director of the European Institutions Department at the MFA, Deputy Permanent Representative of Poland to NATO (1999-2004), Director of the Security Policy Department at the MFA (2004-2008) and Poland’s Ambassador in Washington D.C. (2008-2012). From 2012 to 2015 Mr. Robert Kupiecki held position of Deputy Minister of National Defence. Among other things he was responsible for the ministry’s strategic planning and international political – military relations. From 2016 to 2023 he was strategic affairs expert, Security Policy Department at MFA. In January 2024 Mr. Robert Kupiecki was nominated Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. His responsibilities cover security policy, including defence, disarmament, non-proliferation, export control, and new security threats. He also oversees transatlantic relations, external EU relations and global affairs (UN system). He is also the Political Director at the Ministry. Since September 2025 Mr. Robert Kupiecki has been the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland. For many years he has been engaged in key processes strengthening Polish security such as accession of Poland to NATO (1999) and negotiation on establishing the United States missile defence base in Poland. Professor of the University of Warsaw at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies and author of books and papers on international relations, security, and history. He speaks English and Russian.
