Wolfgang Schmidt is a former German Federal Minister and Head of the Federal Chancellery under Chancellor Olaf Scholz (2021–2025), where he also coordinated Germany’s intelligence services. He previously served as State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance and held senior roles in Hamburg’s government and with the International Labour Organization. He is a member of the ECFR Council, serves on the board of the Munich Security Conference Foundation, and is Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). He also serves on the boards of the Institute for European Politics and the Baden-Baden Entrepreneur Talks.
