Philip Zelikow is the Botha-Chan Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. Before coming to Stanford in 2023, he was a chaired professor of history at the University of Virginia and had earlier taught at Harvard University. An attorney and former career diplomat, his scholarship focuses on critical episodes in world history and on the challenges of policy design and statecraft. He has held positions in the five administrations from Reagan through Obama and has directed three bipartisan national investigative commissions.
