Thomas Emanuel Dans was appointed by President Trump in December 2025 as the 12th Chairman of the United States Arctic Research Commission. Mr. Dans’ career includes three decades in finance, entrepreneurship and public service. His previous roles include Allen & Company, Evercore Partners, the US Russia Investment Fund and US Treasury, as Counselor to the Under Secretary for International Affairs. Mr. Dans is an alumnus of Brown, Harvard and the Moscow Energy Institute, where he studied as an exchange student during the Soviet Union. He is the first fluent Russian speaker to lead the Commission in its more than 40-year history.
