Ted Deutch, a lifelong advocate for the Jewish people and Israel, has served as Chief Executive Officer of American Jewish Committee (AJC) since October 2022. As CEO, he leads AJC’s efforts to ensure Jewish communities are safe and thriving and Israel’s place in the world is secure. Drawing on AJC’s unmatched global reach, Ted has expanded the organization’s partnerships with leaders across government, education, partner communities, and the private sector to combat antisemitism and build a broad network of allies for the global Jewish community and Israel.
In the wake of the October 7 Hamas terrorist attacks and the surge of antisemitism that followed, Ted has guided AJC’s global response, driving coordinated international action. Under his leadership, AJC has launched landmark initiatives like the Center for Education Advocacy and the Center for a New Middle East, strengthened its collaboration with Jewish communities worldwide, and positioned the organization as a pivotal force in addressing antisemitism across the tech and social media landscape.
Prior to joining AJC, Ted served more than 12 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he was a leading bipartisan voice on antisemitism, U.S.–Israel relations, and Middle East policy. He was a founding member of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, including chair of its Middle East, North Africa, and Global Counterterrorism Subcommittee, and chair of the House Ethics Committee. Prior to his time in Congress, he served in the Florida State Senate, where he authored the nation’s first law preventing public pension funds from supporting Iran’s illicit activities.
Ted and his wife, Jill, live in Delray Beach, Florida, and have three adult children.
