Attorney, U.S. Government
Joel is an attorney working at the intersection of law and technology. He has worked with the intelligence community, Department of War, Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, and as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He currently advises on government activities relating to cybersecurity, ubiquitous technical surveillance, and artificial intelligence and machine learning. Previously, he worked on law and policy surrounding the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, including the reauthorization of the FISA Amendments Act and the sunset of the call detail records program in the USA Freedom Act. Joel holds a B.A. from Brandeis University, an M.S. from New York University Tandon School of Engineering, and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.
