Matthew Halek is a Lecturer on technology, economic statecraft, and geopolitics at the University of Chicago and a Strategic Advisor with P33, where he counsels civic and business leaders on Illinois’ expanding role in emerging technologies. Previously, Matthew served as a Special Advisor for Innovation and a John S. McCain Strategic Defense Fellow in the Pentagon, where he was the chief legislative strategist for Department-wide efforts to catalyze the U.S. defense innovation base. Before joining the Pentagon, Matthew was an aide to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s then-Ranking Member, Senator Dianne Feinstein. A proud Chicagoland native, Matthew began his career in the Obama White House. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a BA from DePaul University. Matthew is a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member. He resides in Chicagoland with his wife and daughters.
