Lieutenant (j.g.) Matthew Taylor King is an active-duty naval officer stationed in Washington, DC, focusing on the Indo-Pacific region. Previously, he was deployed to the Middle East with a joint task force. Before joining the Navy, he worked on the editorial pages of The Wall Street Journal and as an aide to Dr. Henry Kissinger, assisting with “Leadership: Six Studies in World Strategy” (2022). He is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of International Affairs program at Johns Hopkins-SAIS, researching U.S.-Japan naval rivalry, strategy, and diplomacy in the interwar period. He earned an M.A. in International Security from Sciences Po (Paris) and a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University, where he was a Robertson Scholar. His commentary has been published in The Wall Street Journal, The American Interest, and Proceedings magazine.
