David van Weel is Minister of Justice and Security of the Netherlands. His priorities are to increase society’s resilience in light of increased geopolitical tensions and hybrid threats, to tackle subversive organized crime, and to increase trust in the rule of law. Previously, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Asylum and Migration, and Assistant Secretary-General NATO for Innovation, Hybrid and Cyber, and Emerging Security Challenges. He founded NATO’s Defense Innovation Accelerator and Innovation Fund. Van Weel started his career with the Royal Netherlands Navy. Several positions followed at the Ministry of Defense and as the foreign policy and defense advisor to Prime Minister Mark Rutte (2016-2020).
